Clean Up Day
The Berkeley Heights Clean Up Day was held on September 13, 2009, and was co-sponsored by the Berkeley Heights Environmental Commission and the Suburban Chamber of Commerce. The theme for this litter clean up and recycling event was "Slam Dunk the Junk," which appeared on the bright green t-shirts that everyone who participated in the event received. Groups were assigned specific public areas of Berkeley Heights in which to pick up trash, including walkways in residential areas, school grounds, and parks. Each group received a $10.00 per volunteer donation that was contributed to the non-profit organization of that group's choosing. Scout troops, high school students, families, friends, and neighbors of all ages pitched in to make the event a success.
